today's look | is it spring yet?

don't get me wrong, i love layers and snow and hot cocoa. but, i feel like winter lasts forever in boston. this time of year is also strange, because it's 20-something degrees everyday, yet all of our favorite stores are featuring spring collections.

this can leave shoppers confused as to why they should invest in pieces that may not feel appropriate at the moment. i have decided that the answer is layering. a spring/summer go-to for me is boat shoes (sans socks, of course) and nautical stripes. very preppy, very classic. i infused both of these into my look today.

i chose this long- sleeve ian velardi for gap polo as a layering piece under a heavier wool cardigan. i also grabbed my sperrys but added a fun argyle sock to keep my feet warm.

today's look:
long-sleeve striped polo shirt | ian velardi for gap+gq
green skinny chinos & argyle socks | gap
wool shawl collar cardigan | h&m
boat shoes | sperry
wrap bracelet | coach men
cord bracelet | urban outfitters
rope anchor bracelet | me (diy)

that's my take. how do you shop - in regard to new collections that do not feel weather/seasonally appropriate?

  1. It's harder to seasonally shop for spring/summer as a larger guy, especially in the winter. That season's style of clothes tend to form fit, or if I buy in a size that doesn't make me feel like all my excess is showing, the clothes don't feel as stylish as they would two sizes down.

This is why the average larger guy opts to stretch fall/winter wear out as long as possible, then switch to cargo shorts and logo T's as soon as its warm enough.

    1. great insight, mason. thanks. fall is my favorite, so i try to buy pieces during the fall months that i can translate into multiple seasons. i also tend to wear black, gray, navy, or any other neutral. so that helps. i'm trying to break out of that a little. :)
