on trend | army green

one of the perks of working for a brand such as guess is that i get to see a lot of on-trend product right as it's hitting the retail world. i am basing this entire post off of a pair of army green skinny jeans that we just received in the past week. as a merchandiser i get to spend quite a bit of time playing around with product and styling it. this helps me know how to style myself, and my clients. when going with a color as bold as army green, some may feel intimidated by the risk of falling into the 'toy soldier' cliche. where as, if you follow me on instagram, you know that i fully embraced that idea a couple of days ago.

i want to show you a couple of ways to play around with this color to make it work for you in a trendy way this season. i may get around to showing you some more classic looks to infuse with this piece, but for now i am very on board with the camo trend - so i am going to focus on that for the sake of this post. (if you had told me a year ago i would embrace camo this much, i would have laughed you out of the room!)

for our first look, i decided to play it safe and pair my denim with a black two-pocket shirt (tucked in) and a camo belt (to accent and tie the colors together). i also wore my studded faux-crocodile sneakers - to add a bit of edge. check it out below.

for our second look, i wanted to show a more casual way to wear army green and still embrace the army trend. here i paired the jeans with a gray-scale camo shirt, solid black leather belt, denim workshirt, and jack purcell converse sneakers. i have grown to love the versatility of a denim workshirt. they really are a staple for any guy's wardrobe. it can be a shirt, or it can be a layering piece. i love layers, and i rarely go without them.

i was only going to showcase the two looks above, but then i got to thinking about layers and i could not talk about layers without throwing in a cardigan. i love cardigans - especially this one. it's oversized. i usually will not buy anything unless it is just the right fit, but when i bought this my size was not available and i loved it so much that i had to get it - even though that meant buying a size too big. i enjoy the proportions it gives, and it's comfortable while being stylish. details just featured a section in their may issue about lightweight sweaters for summer, so take it from me - this is something you want to look into adding to your summer wardrobe.

now that i've shown you how i wear the army trend, leave me your thoughts and feedback about how you are embracing this trend. or if you're not, i would love to hear why.
